# Protocol fees

The Delorean protocol may charge a fee on each transaction.

* **Debt slice fees** are charged relative to the discount rate. For example, a debt fee ratio of 100% means that the the protocol fee is equal to the discount rate. A ratio of 50% means the protocol fee is half the discount rate.
* **Credit slice fees** are a simple percent of the NPV tokens being transacted.

Governance sets the debt slice and credit slice fees as appropriate, and they can be previewed in the user facing interface.
